Facilities Manager Position

Facilities Manager (Open Position)

Full Time 30-35 Hours per week


  • Supervise and/or perform maintenance of all facilities
  • Supervise and/or perform recurring maintenance tasks including pest control
  • Perform minor to moderate-level plumbing repairs, replacements, and/or installations including repairing leaks and removing clogs in sinks and toilets
  • Perform minor electrical repairs and replacement of light fixtures and related items
  • Monitor and respond to reports of necessary repairs
  • Create, implement, and maintain a maintenance-request system
  • Supervise vendors/suppliers and maintenance service providers
  • Contract tradespeople as needed and approved by Ven. Pannavati or Executive Director
  • Supervise and/or perform all outdoor landscaping; responsible for general upkeep of grounds and parking lots; supervise and/or perform lawn mowing, weeding, and tree, bush, and flower pruning
  • Maintain snow removal and preventive measures against ice buildup on walkways and parking lots
  • Maintain contact list of local contractors
  • Assist with kitchen and/or operations related tasks during retreats as needed
  • Other facilities/maintenance related duties as assigned

The specific number of hours per week is intended as a guide, not an absolute.  We joyously do what needs to be done at any moment knowing there is a natural ebb and flow to the pace at Heartwood related to our retreat schedule. Our intention is to ensure that we have time to balance our service with our spiritual practice and other areas of interest in our lives.


  • Two to four years of responsible work experience; strong skills in building trades including: carpentry, electrical, and plumbing
  • Experience with building maintenance, preferably for large facilities
  • Experience with health, safety, and emergency-management issues
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure, and ability to work compassionately with retreatants
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills; ability to take direction; ability to function as both team leader and team player
  • Strong personal and ethical commitment to bringing mindfulness to all activities of daily life; background or interest in meditation or other compatible spiritual tradition
  • Ability to work around retreatants in an appropriate manner to protect “retreatant space” through mindfulness, slowed speed and mindful speech when retreatants are present
  • Strong time-management skills; ability to coordinate, follow through on , and manage a variety of tasks simultaneously
  • Flexibility in schedule on a daily and weekly basis, and ability to work evenings and weekends
  • A sincere interest in the exploration of bringing mindfulness to all activities of daily life
  • Physical: Able to lift, carry, push or pull objects up to 50 pounds
