Dharmacharya Retreat: Don’t Peddle Fool’s Gold ~ Zoom Online

with Venerable Pannavati and Venerable Pannadipa

December 4 - 6, 2020

Don’t Peddle Fool’s Gold – The Strong Bear the Infirmities of the Weak

This is a restricted online (Zoom) retreat open to current and former dharmacharyas, dc’s on the waiting list and serious, direct students of the Venerables who have been attending Tuesday or Thursday classes only. It will be limited to 25 participants.

Going forward we have a lot of healing to do! But first, we have to have right resolve, inner clarity, a desire to communicate effectively with those we love and empathy with those who hold opposing views. So, we will be doing a heartful but serious check-in of the Buddha’s 3Ms (message, medicine and methods) —  what that is and how we can embody it. We will examine the Buddha’s teachings of overcoming suffering alongside some of today’s popular positions of nurturing the “inner child”, the 5 (or up to 12) stages of grief, role of prayer in spiritual life, relational dialectics, the “f” word – faith and other views. Our goal is to foster more effective ways of working with adversity, understanding the limitations of verbal  communication, strengthening our capacity to initiate and respond to situations and people with compassion, and reducing our own fragility (thereby increasing stability, confidence and resilience). This will be potent teaching for people who want to be the change they want to see in the world.

The retreat will include short reflections and meditation, break-out discussions, plenary sessions, self exams and question and answer. The Venerables will be joined by a guest facilitator each day and each retreatant will use their individual conclusions to design their own self-care advice. Please come focused and ready to deep dive. You may share your reflections for inclusion in a self-help compilation guide (an e-book and narration to be published in the spring or early summer of 2021). We would like volunteer narrators and already have an editor for the project and talking with a publisher! Each contributor will receive “published author” credit for their submission.
It is said the Buddha would rise early in the morning and scan with his vast vision to see who was ready for his dharma, “today”. In this spirit, we are excited about this retreat! See you soon. Pannavati and Pannadipa
