Creative practice is spiritual practice, and because there is a need in the world for light as it comes through you, creativity is generosity. Creatives of all types – artists, writers, singers, speakers, parents and project managers – grapple at times with the human experience of fear, self-doubt and toxic levels of self-criticism. Mindful awareness allows us to see through delusions of self, let go of fearful self-doubt, to be present with what deserves our attention and compassionate response; whether we desire to create a piece of music or visual art, a more harmonious family, or a more just world. This retreat offers training that develops mindful awareness, plus the time, space and support to serve living beings through your gifts. Bring your most important instrument – your body – as well as your journal, art supplies, musical instruments, or whatever you use in your creative process. Be sure to bring your willingness to outgrow your current limits!
Christie’s current creative project is the Deep South Dharma podcast, which she produces and releases weekly. Known for warmth and ability to “translate” between traditions, Christie was ordained a Dharmacharya (Buddhist minister) in October 2016 by Venerables Pannavati and Pannadipa after practicing a dedicated contemplative path since 1985. As spiritual director, Licensed Professional Counselor (TN and MS), the author of Accepting Your Resurrection (2008), and now podcaster, Christie serves to help people reclaim their gifts – and the profound joy of making things – from the suffering of addictions, compulsions and attachments. Acharya Dr. Maureen Hall is a Chiropractic Physician, Acupuncturist and Energy Healer specializing in mindfulness-based interventions for stress, and workplace wellness. She has been teaching the eight-week Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) course at Missouri University of Science and Technology, each semester, since 2010-2017, and St. John’s Integrative Medicine in Springfield, MO 2006 and 2008.
